GACE Paraprofessional Practice Exam

Encouraging a growth mindset in students involves helping them understand that their abilities and intelligence can develop through dedication and hard work. Reinforcing effort and persistence is key to this concept, as it teaches students that achievements are the result of their efforts rather than fixed traits. By acknowledging the importance of trying, practicing, and learning from mistakes, paraprofessionals can foster resilience and a love for learning. This approach cultivates an environment where students feel safe to take risks and are motivated to put in the necessary effort to improve their skills over time.

In contrast, emphasizing standardized testing does not inherently promote a growth mindset, as it focuses more on performance metrics rather than the learning process. Focusing solely on academic achievements can create an environment where students feel pressured to meet certain benchmarks without recognizing the value of their ongoing growth and development. Comparing students with their peers can foster a fixed mindset, as it might lead students to believe that they are not as capable as others, rather than focusing on their own progress and potential for improvement.
